T-Shirt Uniform Illustration

Jam's Karaoke & Bar

Jam’s Karaoke & Bar in Newcastle, Australia offers authentic Japanese Karaoke experience with Izakaya bites and enough drinks to keep locals entertained.

Newcastle is one of the popular surf towns on the east coast of Australia. I was commissioned to create illustrations for staff uniforms which represents both Japanese karaoke and Australian surf cultures in a unique style that appeals to the young audience of the bar.

An octopus with a headband is a typical motif represents takoyaki(small flour-ball snack with a piece of octopus leg in it), which is one of the popular local street food in Osaka, Japan.

Speaking to the headband, it also refers to drunk Japanese salaryman on Friday nights at bars and karaoke box tying their necktie at the head, which is also the inspiration of those octopuses.
