I designed an album launch t-shirt for ‘Love, Tomorrow’ by Me and Friends, a four-piece indie rock/synth pop band from Newcastle, Australia.
Based on the request from the band to include portraits of the members playing music and/or elements from the lyrics of the songs of the album, I drafted several concept sketches while brainstorming the composition ideas.
Since the band’s breezy sound is partly influenced by Japanese city pop style music from the ’70-80s, I draw inspirations from illustrations and graphic trends in that era – such as bold typography, manga style art, multiple colour prints, aiming to bring a sense of nostalgia.
The final design is centres on the portrait of Matt, the band’s frontman, where their soundscape swirls and expands around him, with lyrical motifs popping out from the flow.
The t-shirt is screen-printed in deep red ink on beige fabric. It’s available for purchase on the band’s Bandcamp.
