Akane Yabushita

I was born and raised in a small town in Mie prefecture, Japan. Back in my early school days, I was doodling every corner of my schoolbooks and notebooks to turn them into flipbooks. Funnily enough, this sorely pure artistic passion in my childhood has evolved into a pursuit as an adult (a bit more intentional way) and shaping my livelihood today.

When my parents bought our first laptop at home and gifted me Adobe Photoshop 5.0, it was a complete game-changer. I then started my art and design education in high school, also learning how to code by myself to build personal websites to showcase my art.

After completing my studies in Osaka and working for some years, I took the leap from my comfort zone to further my education in London, and subsequently explore the world as a Working Holiday Maker in various countries. Following a series of local experiences including working, volunteering and backpacking, I decided to endeavour the new lifestyle of a freelance ‘digital nomad’, providing services with my skills which have been sharpened through my lifetime, while working remotely from anywhere in the world.

My art and design style has been shaped by Japanese culture and aesthetics which I grew up with, particularly influenced by 80-90s pop culture and minimalist philosophy. My hand-drawn illustration holds handcrafted, dynamic, and imperfect charm, which is derived from a traditional Japanese calligraphy brush that I use as the primary tool. It holds a special place in my heart since my practice of traditional Japanese calligraphy during my childhood.

I like ‘Slow Travel’ which enables me to digest new cultures and build a deeper connection with new people while immersing myself in the local environment. These multicultural experiences broadened my perspective of life and have become my major creative inspiration, as well as my strength to help global clients who seek Japanese authenticity.

In my spare times, I mostly find myself in nature for hiking, taking photos, enjoying quality time with friends, cooking wholesome foods or practising yoga.
