While I was visiting Lisbon, the capital of Portugal for the first time, my eyes always went to numerous kinds of azulejos(tile arts) that remain on the surfaces of old architecture throughout the city.
These tile design consists of geometric shapes, patterns of floral motif, religious symbols and such. I had a feeling that azulejo is a symbol of the bridge between Portuguese tradition and modern culture that bloomed by recent economic growth, and is what makes Lisbon unique and enchanting among capitals in Europe.
Driven by their charm, I created a series of hand-drawn azulejo pattern designs by my own interpretation. (16 designs in 4 colours)
